Learning the diagnosis of Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) is one of the hardest news a cat lover can receive.
The thought of losing a family member or a friend, as many of us consider our pets to be… is overwhelming. For years, PIF was viewed as a final sentence… but now, we finally have reason to believe in a cure.

Today, science has offered us a life-changing treatment.

At Crisia Farm, we believe that no cat should be deprived of this chance. We put our knowledge, experience and heart at the service of each case, so that you and your cat can have hope.

What is feline infectious peritonitis (FIP)?

FIP is caused by a mutation of the feline coronavirus (FCoV), a common virus that often lives harmlessly in the intestinal tract of cats. In rare cases, the virus mutates into a virulent form that can spread throughout the body and trigger a severe immune-mediated inflammatory response. This is especially common in young cats or those that are stressed or immunosuppressed.

PIF occurs in two main forms:

  • Wet (effusive) PIF: characterized by fluid accumulation in the abdomen or chest, which can lead to difficulty breathing and a swollen abdomen. This form progresses rapidly.
  • Dry (non-effusive) PIF: a less obvious but equally dangerous form that causes inflammation in organs such as the liver, kidneys, eyes or brain. Symptoms may include neurological signs, weight loss, lethargy, jaundice or eye problems.
Untreated, both forms of PIF are almost always fatal. Until recently, for most of us cat lovers, the only option was palliative care.

A major change in the treatment of FIP

In recent years, it has emerged as a breakthrough drug for FIP. The nitrile derivative of tetrahydrofuran works by inhibiting viral replication at the cellular level, giving the cat's immune system a chance to fight the virus.

Studies and clinical experience have shown that therapy with this substance led to a high percentage of remission in cats diagnosed with FIP.

"Thousands of cats around the world are now leading normal, healthy lives after completing the full treatment protocol."

Graduate of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Bucharest, holder of a master's degree in Companion Animal Pathology obtained at the "Spiru Haret" Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and doctoral student at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Cluj-Napoca, he dedicates his activity to advanced research on microbiota and its impact on renal function in cats.

In 2009, together with two fellow veterinarians, he founded the veterinary practice 3VET from Bucharest, a benchmark of professionalism and innovation in the field. Over the years, he has given numerous presentations as a speaker at national and international symposiums, conferences and congresses, with the central theme of optimizing and improving diagnostics in companion animal medicine. How does it work and what can it do?

  • Blocks the multiplication of FCoV in cat cells.
  • It inhibits viral RNA polymerase, stopping the spread of infection.
  • It allows the body to recover and fight disease more effectively.

Results that speak for themselves

  • More than 8 out of 10 treated cats go into complete remission.
  • Rapid improvement of general condition.
  • Even in difficult cases, the correct doses can yield exceptional results.
