Pharmacological properties
- Nitrofurantoin – is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent, active against most urinary pathogens. The wide range of organisms susceptible to its bactericidal activity includes: Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Klebsiella sp, Enterobacter sp, Staphylococcus sp, Citrobacter sp., etc.
Clinically, the most common urinary pathogens are sensitive to nitrofurantoin.
Warnings and precautions

- A very serious allergic reaction to nitrofurantoin is rare. However, if you experience any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction (severe rash, itching or swelling of the face, tongue or throat, severe dizziness, difficulty breathing), you should seek emergency medical attention.
