Description
AHCC® (Active Hexose Correlated Compounds) is a product obtained from the mycelium of several species of basidiomycete mushrooms used in Traditional Japanese Medicine. The mushrooms come from organic Japanese cultures and are cultivated in rice bran extract. The manufacturing process of AHCC® was developed and patented by Amino-Up Chemical Company of Sapporo, Japan. This complex process takes place under laboratory conditions and includes the culture of the mushroom mixture in a liquid medium, enzymatic modification obtained by fermentation, then purification and freeze-drying. The oligosaccharides in AHCC® have a molecular weight of less than 5000 daltons, which gives them high intestinal bioabsorption when administered orally. In addition, AHCC® contains GI-saccharides, a type of glycoside with a molecular weight of less than 1000 daltons, which are easily digestible and have immune system balancing activity.
Adjuvant effects:
- supporting the balance of the Th1/Th2 ratio in favor of Th1 lymphocytes, which favors the production of specific immune system compounds:
- gamma interferon, an immunostimulatory compound, supports the increase in NK cell activity by up to 300%, macrophages and supports the synthesis of nitric oxide
- TNF-α supports the normal process of cell division
- interleukins IL-1, IL-2 and IL-12 contribute to maintaining the TGF-β factor within normal limits, favoring the activation of NK cells and the production of LAK cells (lymphocyte-activated cells), which act on cells in the liver, stomach, colorectal, pancreatic, pulmonary, oropharyngeal, breast, thyroid, ovarian, testicular, prostatic, renal, and bone.
- dendritic cell activating factors balance the primary immune response
- promoting the body's ability to adapt to prolonged stress conditions, through:
- supporting the immune system against the action of cortisol secreted above normal limits
- maintaining a normal blood glucose level (a level that can be influenced by increased adrenaline secretion) and supporting normal sensitivity of cell receptors to insulin
- supporting the balancing of the action of the ornithine decarboxylase enzyme (the enzyme that influences the normal process of cell division)
- biosynthesis of glutathione, a compound with antioxidant properties, with a role in maintaining metabolic, immune, cerebral and normal cell division processes
- maintaining normal liver structure and function
- supporting the beneficial actions of allopathic therapy associated with cell division beyond the normal limit and providing support against the secondary reactions associated with it (e.g. nausea, hair loss, fatigue, decreased appetite, changes in normal liver structure and function, changes in normal blood element levels, weight loss)
